BIM with HILTI - BIM use Experience Tour

In our previous article, we discussed how Building Information Modelling (BIM) can assist in different stages of construction, from design, construction to operation. With the initiative of Construction 2.0 in construction industry, BIM adaptation is the major trend and play a much important role in the future. HILTI, as your business partner, we are also investing in the development on this aspect, bring our innovative BIM solution to the market. Our BIM Competence Center in Netherland is the showcase on our BIM solution which could facilitate your project management and workflow.

Welcome to our BIM Use Experience Tour, walk through our BIM solution.

In HILTI, we defined our solution into 6 BIM uses and each serve a specific purpose. Please click on each icon for the introductory video.

Design Optimization

The first one is Design Optimization, which applies to the building service system within the building. In many projects, fastening of MEP systems is not planned well ahead of jobsite and cause unwanted congestion and reworks. By incorporating supports, anchoring and fire protection solutions in the BIM workflow, massive optimization can be achieved through upfront engineering, multi-trade solutions, and early clash identification. This translates to higher jobsite productivity, less material cost and increased safety.

Pre-fabrication

Productivity in the construction industry has been stagnating in the past decades. Incorporating MEP solutions like hanger support systems in the BIM workflow, prefabrication is enabled. On-site installation is therefore much faster, in addition to avoiding material waste and ensuring "built as design".

Advanced Logistics

Managing logistics and tracking progress on a jobsite can be challenging, especially modular based hanger. Hilti can strongly contribute to improving the situation. We provide transparency along the supply chain and installation process, with precise tracking through unique IDs. This is then combined with jobsite delivery services to ensure delivery at the right place and right time, overall enabling smooth execution and on-time project delivery.

Validation

Validation and documentation are important steps of every project to ensure quality and safety. It is however often very time consuming and impractical.
The BIM model can be used as the single source of truth, to make that process more efficient. It also enables integration of the validation process of installed hardware products.
With BIM as one of key backbone of modern construction method, it is crucial for the industry to build up the linkage between modelling and field condition to maximize the productivity gain from such advanced technology.

BIM2Field

BIM2Field is all about reflecting data in BIM at discrete jobsite location. One of the flaws of construction currently in Hong Kong is the lack of connection between BIM and on-site work process. Even with advanced backend modelling in back office, personnel on the field still have to rely on traditional practices, such as 2D drawing in paper or photo format to locate, which leads to low productivity.
With the help of BIM adapted devices, information in BIM can be transferred in a more efficient manner for implementation on-site. Installation point for building service system can be identified automatically using laser which also enables automated machinery in construction industry.

Field2BIM

Field2BIM serves the purpose of transferring and reflecting jobsite condition back in the BIM model. With better understanding of the jobsite condition, workers can locate hazardous area or condition which may pose challenges in their work. Owners or project management can have higher transparency and accuracy of the site work. This avoids spending extra time on remedial works and integrate with building management system for future maintenance.
